Collection System Operator

Essential Functions

This position works under the direction of the Operations and Maintenance Manager.  The primary function of the work involves the operation and maintenance of sanitary sewer and storm drain infrastructure. Tasks include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintenance of underground pipes, including flushing and television inspections
  • Maintenance and repair of wastewater pumps
  • Sewer repair and construction
  • Operation of heavy equipment

Auxiliary Functions

  • Assist with the operation of wastewater treatment plant
  • Provide routine maintenance for vehicles and equipment
  • Provide routine maintenance for buildings and grounds.

Job Qualification Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s license

Working Conditions

  • Work activities take place outside of buildings with exposure to all types of weather conditions.  Work is occasionally done at night.  Work includes exposure to sewage, bio-hazards, traffic, dirt, oil, grease, fumes, noise and chemicals.  Work requires occasional use of respirators and confined space entry.


Pay scale $24.23 to $27.25 per hour

Rogue Valley Sewer Services (RVSS) operates and maintains public wastewater collection systems with over 425 miles of sewer pipe and provides sanitary sewer service for the cities of Talent, Phoenix, Medford (portion), Central Point, Eagle Point, Shady Cove, Gold Hill and unincorporated areas of Jackson County. RVSS also operates and maintains waste water reclamation (treatment) facilities for the Cities of Shady Cove and Gold Hill and provides stormwater quality services for Jackson County, Phoenix, Talent, and White City. Job Summary:

RVSS is looking for a self-motivated sewer and stormwater construction inspector to inspect and verify compliance with RVSS and other regulatory construction standards and requirements. Inspection responsibilities will include sanitary sewer collection system and service line construction, stormwater management facility installation, temporary erosion and sediment control plan implementation and compliance. RVSS offers an excellent compensation and benefits package which includes the following:

  • Salary schedule: $66,552.00 – $82,428.00 (Annually)

  • $2,400 per year RVSS contribution to an employee health reimbursement account
  • 16hrs/month of paid time off (PTO) after the first year of employment
  • 8.6% RVSS retirement contribution

This is a full time position with flexible work hours scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Please see the attached job description for more detailed information about the position.
